Matteo Chincarini
Matteo Chincarini is an Assistant Professor in animal behaviour and welfare at the University of Teramo, where he coordinates the Ethics Committee in the Department of Veterinary Medicine. His research focuses on emotional indicators and the application of neuroscience to assess and promote positive animal welfare. He is particularly interested in how animals experience and express positive emotions and how these insights can be integrated into welfare assessment frameworks.
He holds a PhD in animal welfare, with a dissertation titled Implications of Emotions and Cognitive Abilities for Sheep Welfare, exploring the role of emotions and cognitive capacities in the well-being of sheep. He is actively involved in international collaborations, including the COST Action LIFT (promoting positive welfare in livestock) and COST Action Affect-Evo (investigating the evolution and development of affective states in animals through a neuroscience approach).
He teaches animal welfare assessment in the Master’s program in Sustainable Animal Production Science and behaviour and welfare of animals used for scientific purposes in the PhD program in Veterinary Medical Sciences, Public Health, and Animal Welfare.
