Gemma Charlton is a Lecturer in Animal Science at Harper Adams University, UK. She has a BSc (Hons) in Animal Behaviour and Welfare (University of Central Lancashire, UK), an MSc in Animal Biology and Welfare (University of Essex, UK) and a PhD on ‘The welfare implications of grazing high yielding dairy cows’ from Harper Adams University. Her research interests include the effects of housing and management on the behaviour and welfare of dairy cattle and the role of precision livestock technologies to improve animal welfare.

There are nearly 700 members worldwide and each year the Society assembles for a major International Congress, where in addition to addresses by special keynote speakers, members present their latest research findings. There are also regular regional conferences held to encourage local knowledge exchange.
