2026 Animal Welfare Judging Assessment Contest
Registration is now open for the 2026 spring Animal Welfare Assessment Contest
AVMA’s Animal Welfare Assessment Contest (AWJAC) is back this spring. Join us April 25-26 for an online competition that teaches students to assess the welfare of animals in a variety of settings using science-based methods and reasoning. Species covered in the contest include show rabbits and free-range broilers. Register today by visiting avma.org/AWJAC.
Today's animal science departments are relied upon to prepare their graduates to address the ever¬-evolving field of animal welfare. The spring AVMA Animal Welfare Assessment Contest® taking place online April 25-26 provides future leaders with experience gathering and evaluating information for addressing animal welfare in an objective way. The contest is open to international veterinary students, undergraduates, and graduate students.
AWJAC is seeking judges for their upcoming contests. AWJAC is an educational tool for enhancing understanding and awareness of welfare issues affecting animals used for human purposes. Scenarios are evaluated by students and judges to determine which facility has a higher level of welfare, and students then present their rationale orally to judges.
