In 2021, Oluwaseun Serah Iyasere and Danila Marini came on board as the new regional secretaries for the ISAE Australasia-Africa region, taking over from Kris Descovich and Amanda Doughty, who did a fantastic job keeping everyone updated on events.

Forward thinking - applying ethology to solve behaviour and welfare questions
University of Sydney, WP Young Seminar Room, Veterinary Science Conference Centre
29th October
Two keynote presentations were delivered on the day. Associate Professor Phil Taylor (Macquarie University) discussed the incorporation of pure ethology in applied research. Dr. Greg Cronin (University of Sydney) addressed the question ‘can non-confinement housing for the farrowing sow and her litter be successfully achieved in intensive pig production in Australia?’
The meeting was FREE for members and non-members. Lunch and tea/coffee was provided as well.

2013 ISAE Regional Meeting
On 31st October we held a regional meeting at AgReserach, Hamilton, NZ with the theme 'Future solutions for animal behaviour and welfare problems'.
The meeting was great fun and the abstract book is available for download here

Archival Regional News & Notices
- Member Megan Jones from South Africa was awarded a UFAW grant to attend the 44th ISAE Congress, where she presented her work on striped mice and stereotypy. See here for more.
- An interesting RSPCA scientific seminar was held in Canberra on the topic "Animal welfare and ethics: from principles to practice", with input from regional and other ISAE members. See http://www.rspca.org.au/what-we-do/science-and-policies/science-seminars.html
- Congratulations to Professor Paul Hemsworth, long standing ISAE member and Director of the Animal Welfare Science Centre in Australia, who was awarded the St Michael's Medallion in 2011 from Melbourne's St Michael's Uniting Church. This award recognises work that assists the prevention of violence, trauma and destructiveness or promotes growth, health and well-being. Paul's research focusses on the behaviour of livestock and companion animals, especially the relationship between animals, and between animals and their handlers and the environment.
