Kris Descovich is currently a Lecturer in Animal Welfare at the Unitec Institute of Technology in Auckland, NZ, and her research focuses on applied behaviour and welfare in a wide range of animal species. Kris completed a BAppSc(Hons) and a PhD at the Centre for Animal Welfare and Ethics at the University of Queensland, and worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Stirling in Scotland before returning to the Australasian region to take up her current position. There are nearly 700 members worldwide and each year the Society assembles for a major International Congress, where in addition to addresses by special keynote speakers, members present their latest research findings. There are also regular regional conferences held to encourage local knowledge exchange.
