Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock webinar

3rd Jul 2024

Online

Hosted online by the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL), this webinar will showcase examples where action is and can be taken to transform livestock systems.

Speakers will present perspectives on where and how transformation are occurring at a global (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations - FAO), regional (The African Union, Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources - AU-IBAR), multi-stakeholder (GASL) and industry (Dairy Sustainability Framework - DSF) levels.

As a part of the webinar, the contribution of animal welfare to sustainable livestock production will be discussed.  Animal welfare has long been recognised by the United Nation system, particularly FAO, as a crucial contributing factor to addressing environmental crises and advancing sustainable development. Diverse examples of animal welfare  in policy and practice are present across many parts of the world and many types of production environments. Complementing these examples from speakers, the GASL’s Animal Welfare Action Network will be launching their policy brief on where animal welfare needs to be considered for the transformation of livestock systems.
