Ellen Williams

Ellen is an animal behaviour and welfare scientist. She has a BSc (Hons) in Animal Behaviour (University of Wales, Aberystwyth), an MSc in Endangered Species Recovery and Conservation (Nottingham Trent University) and a PhD on 'Factors affecting social interactions in zoo-housed elephants' from Nottingham Trent University. Her research focuses on increasing our understanding of the zoo environment on animal behaviour and welfare and the development of evidence-based practice in zoo animal management.

There are nearly 700 members worldwide and each year the Society assembles for a major International Congress, where in addition to addresses by special keynote speakers, members present their latest research findings. There are also regular regional conferences held to encourage local knowledge exchange.
