Bianca Vandresen
Secretary (2025-2029)

Bianca Vandresen is currently a Ph.D. student in the University of British Columbia’s Animal Welfare Program. Her research focuses on understanding the human dimensions of animal welfare, particularly how perceptions, attitudes, and decision-making influence the welfare of farm animals. Bianca’s work integrates natural and social science approaches to address animal welfare issues by improving understanding of the multiple perspectives of interest holders. Before pursuing her doctorate, Bianca earned her M.Sc. in Animal Welfare from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, where she studied how to align scientific approaches with the expectations of interest holders in pig production systems. She also holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, which provided her with broad experience in animal health and welfare. In addition to her academic work, Bianca serves as Board Coordinator for the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada, where she contributes to evidence-based funding strategies that support national animal welfare initiatives. She previously served as the ISAE Student Representative from 2023 to 2024 and is happy to return to the ISAE Council as Secretary.
