Oluwaseun Serah Iyasere

Dr. Oluwaseun Serah Iyasere obtained her first and second degrees from Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Nigeria (FUNAAB). She obtained her PhD from Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom in 2014. She is a specialist in Animal Behaviour and Welfare and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Animal Physiology, FUNAAB where she teaches courses in comparative animal behavior, environmental physiology, ethics in animal physiology research and animal welfare. She is the UFAW Link person in FUNAAB.

 

Dr. O.S. Iyasere belongs to several professional bodies both at international and local levels such as Universities Federation for Animal Welfare (UFAW), International Society for Applied Ethology, Animal Welfare Research Network, UK and World’s Poultry Science Association - Nigerian Branch. She is an Editorial Advisory Board member of Applied Animal Behaviour Science Journal.  She has 32 journal articles and 27 refereed conference proceedings to her credit. Her research interest is in farm animal behaviour and welfare especially in chickens and goat. Some of her research works in progress are ‘sleeping behaviour in Nigerian indigenous chickens’ and ‘behaviour of different breeds of chickens to playback calls’. Dr O.S. Iyasere has won several travel and research grants such as Years 2015-2016 (merged) TETFUND research grant (£2400) in 2018, UFAW travel Grant (£600) in 2019, Developing Congress Attendance Fellowship (DCCAF) award winner ($4300) in 2019, and the UFAW Animal Welfare Student Scholarship in 2020 was awarded to her master’s student (Oreoluwa Doyinsola Ajayi) to support her project.
