PhD on „Adaptive significance of social touch in group-living mammals”

The Animal Behaviour and Welfare team of the Institute of Genetics and Animal Biotechnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IGBZ-PAN) is looking for a motivated PhD student to study social behaviour and cognition of pigs. The PhD student will work in a multidisciplinary environment with a broad range of learning opportunities. The 4-year project will focus mainly on social behaviour of pigs, which can be approached from an evolutionary perspective as well as for its relevance to animal welfare. The tasks include data collection on research pigs in Edinburgh, UK (6 months as part of a fixed internship) and at the research institute in Jastrzebiec (near Warsaw) Poland, collection of samples and writing of scientific publications.
