PhD student position in cow temperament and maternal behaviour research
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Calgary
Calgary, Canada
We are seeking a motivated graduate student interested in cattle welfare and behaviour. With this
study, we aim to characterize the association and stability of various behavioural traits related to cow maternal
behaviour and reactivity across time and contexts (e.g., interactions with humans) to determine potential impacts
on cow productive and reproductive success.
Research activities with this PhD program will include literature review, on-farm behaviour observation (cow-calf
pairs behaviour and animals’ responses will be recorded), video behaviour observation, data management,
quantitative and qualitative analysis, and manuscript preparation. Moreover, the graduate student will be expected
to collaborate with other international students and engage in ongoing animal research.
