 27th May 2022

Assistant Professor of “Farm Animal Welfare”

Department for Farm Animals and Veterinary Public Health, Vetmeduni
Vienna, Austria

The Assistant Professor is expected to contribute to the research and teaching excellence of the Institute of Animal Welfare Science. The Institute is composed of 6 scientists and 25 staff, working together to deliver research of the highest quality, providing the basis to improve animal welfare in practice while addressing societal concerns. We have a dual focus on basic and applied research, from novel ideas to science‐based improvements in practice, and have become a leading research group on animal welfare in Europe and internationally. This collegial environment will enable you to develop a rigorous, independently funded research program with immediate impact and to realize your full potential to become a world leader in animal welfare.
Main tasks
The research profile of the tenure-track Assistant Professor should strengthen one of the two internationally recognized research programmes of the Institute on 1) social behaviour and human-animal relationship, or 2) Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) related to real-time and continuous animal welfare assessment. The Assistant Professor should aim to establish internationally visible research profile, primarily financed by external funds. There are numerous opportunities for collaboration with complementary research groups within the Vetmeduni as well as with national and international institutions, Vienna being a research-intensive international hub. The tasks also include independent teaching and the provision of scientific expertise and leadership.
